How to stay in the process by speaking out loud

When you do Focusing with a partner, you speak out loud some of the time. Even if your partner doesn’t repeat back what you say, speaking out loud is actually a powerful way to stay “in” the process.

Let me show you what I mean:

  1. Pause and sense how you are feeling right now.
  2. Take a moment to find words that fit… and then say silently, “I am sensing a feeling of ________.” Notice what happens.
  3. Now say those same words out loud. Do you feel a difference?
  4. Try inwardly acknowledging the feeling that you found.
  5. Now acknowledge out loud by saying, “I’m saying Hello to that” or something similar
  6. What did you discover about the power of speaking out loud? Most people find it’s easier to concentrate when they say some of the process out loud.

Did that work well for you? Give you some ideas about your own Focusing alone?
